The Dhaka Metropolitan Police will seize mobiles from drivers talking on the phone while they are driving, officials said.
The police will, in addition to seizing the mobiles, also fine such drivers under the existing laws as it noticed that such use of mobiles caused traffic accident, a DMP release said.
The government in a gazette notification issued on December 19, 2007 said, ‘No person shall wear earphones or use mobile phones while driving any motor vehicle.’
Most of the countries have banned the use of mobiles for motorists while driving.
The motor vehicle ordinance has a provision for fining or imprisoning a driver for using mobile while driving but the police have no mechanism to enforce it, an official said.
