The five-day Lalon Smaran Utsab-2014 (Lalon memorial festival) ended on Wednesday at the shrine of the most influential baul,
Fakir Lalon Shah at Chheuriy, in Kushtia.
The festival is usually held in the first week of the month of Chaitra in the Bangla calendar marking dol purnima (full moon night).
The festival was organised jointly by Lalon Academy Complex, which is the caretaking organisation of Lalon Shah’s mausoleum, and Kushtia district administration.
Dol Purnima Lalon Smaran festival was inaugurated by Mahabubul Hanif, Member of Parliament of Kushtia-3, Saturday night, which was the first day of Chaitra.
Numerous bauls, bards and other devotees from all over the country gathered at the shrine to participate in the festival. The festival introduced the philosophy of Lalon through Lalon Shah’s mystic songs.
The bauls took part in the festival for commemorating the contributions and philosophy of Fakir Lalon Shah. The bauls also presented timeless of songs of the mystic bard in the festival, which also featured a colourful fair selling and displaying handicrafts, snacks, and daily necessary goods.
The deputy commissioner of Kushtia and also president of Lalon Academy Complex Belal Hossain told New Age, ‘More people gathered in Lalon mela this year and we tried our best to keep the honour of Shaijhee’s philosophy.’
