Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club kept their winning run in the Dhaka Premier League as they beat Kalabagan Cricket Academy by 49 runs in Duckworth/Lewis method on Tuesday to reach the top of the points table. In the rain-affected match at Fatullah, Doleshwar reached 287-6 before KCA, who are right at the bottom of the table with just two points, could make 98-4 in 21 overs when the rain stopped the play.
Umpires declared Doleshwar winners as both the teams completed at least 20 overs as per requirement.
Imtiaz Hossain, who has been in prolific form in the league, scored 86 runs off 94 balls, his third half-century in the league to go with two centuries, which set up the Doleshwar total.
Imtiaz, who struck six fours and two sixes, put 112-run in the opening stand with Robiul Islam Robi, who scored 50 to provide a solid base for their side.
The 31-year old Imtiaz, who has now 490 runs at an average of 70 under his belt, felt unlucky to miss out on a century as he thought KCA’s Noor Hossain held a blinder to deny him.
‘It’s disappointing to miss the three-figure mark,’ said Imtiaz to New Age adding that ‘the fielder took a spectacular catch to dismiss me’.
Roqibul Hassan made 66 to keep the tempo and skipper Farhad Reza’s not out 34 off just 15 balls propelled Doleshwar to a commendable total.
Mehedi Hossain Miraz, former Under-19 skipper, picked up two wickets for KCA.
In reply, KCA got off to a steady start as their openers Irfan Sukkur (38) and Myshukur Rahman made a 47-run opening stand.
With the prospect of rain, Doleshwar, who needed to win to reach the top of the table, took a smart move by opening the attack and bowl the full 10-over quota of Nasir Hossain on a trot.
The ploy paid rich dividend as they could finish 21 overs, one more over than the minimum requirement to constitute a match before the rain arrived on 2:35 pm and the match was called off on 4:20 pm.
Nasir not only finished the overs quickly but he also picked up Irfan and one-down Jatin Saxena to keep his side’s domination in the match after Al-Amin Hossain gave them the breakthrough by removing Myshukur in the 11th over.
KCA also faced a big blow when their inform batsman Mahmudul Hasan, who scored a century in the previous match to topple down Abahani Limited, had to retired hurt after scoring just two runs.
Man of the match Imtiaz also made some impact on the field when his throw ran out Taposh Ghosh as the fourth batsman of KCA to push them back even further.
