Seasoned actor Dolly Zahur’s popular drama serial from the 80’s Ei Sob Din Ratri is being re-telecasted on BTV on Monday and Thursday at 10:30pm. The actor gained huge popularity for her lively acting in the role ‘Nilu Bhabi’ in the drama serial, which was written by
Humayun Ahmed and directed by Mostafizur Rahman.
Dolly Zahur, who has acted in numerous teleplays and films, has carved her place in the entertainment industry with her motherly acting skills. Some of her renowned drama serials and teleplays include Shesh Patra, Chupi Chupi, Bagha Sher, Scandal, Uttoradhikar and many others.
However, the actor is nowadays doing selective works due to family responsibilities. ‘My sister is suffering from cancer and is presently very ill. I pay a lot of time attending to her needs,’ informed the artiste.
‘Recently I have received seven or eight offers for drama series but I had to turn them down as I don’t have enough time to engage in shooting for new drama series,’ added Dolly Zahur.
Atiqul Chowdhury’s Sukher Upoma was one of my most successful works in my entire acting career. The play was highly acclaimed in Kolkata too. Another of my remarkable works was Brishtir Gaan, a teleplay adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s story of the same title,’ informed the nostalgic actress.
Dolly Zahur also believes that it is easy to work for a while but tough to create a permanent place in the industry. ‘Acting is a great performing art which requires rigorous practice and devotions. An actor will never fade away if he/she takes acting seriously. I have seen many actors who carry on acting like a hobby and thus eventually they just disappear,’ observed the artiste.
Dolly Zahur is not a great enthusiast about the current scenario of the television industry. ‘There was only one channel during my early acting career – BTV – and, the audience would wait for the play of the week but now there are too many channels and hundreds of teleplays to watch. It is a good thing that the artistes are getting more work but ultimately the quality of the teleplays are deteriorating as the plays are made in a very short time,’ stated Dolly Zahur.
The actor began acting at very young age. ‘I began my acting career as a theatre artiste when I was a child. My brother took me to different functions to act as a child artiste,’ shared the endowed artiste. ‘I never count the number of my teleplays and films so I really can’t say how many films or teleplays I have acted in but the number is enormous,’ stated the artiste who also enjoys listening to music in her leisure.
Zahur thinks that some of the young artistes are doing really good. ‘Nowadays, you have to work a lot with young artistes and most of them are good actors and they will do even better as currently the scope of work has increased with the number of tv channels that telecast teleplays on a regular basis,’ expressed Dolly Zahur.
