Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal and West Indies batsman Darren Bravo were engaged in an unusual bust-up on Tuesday during the fourth day of the second Test adding some spice to an otherwise dull Test series. When Shamsur Rahman got out, Bravo, who usually field at slip, came to non-striking batsman Tamim and sledged him in way that was hard to accept for the Bangladesh batsman. ‘Give the boys their money, Tamim,’ said Bravo in a clear reference to the unpaid wages of some West Indies players for their services in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament. Tamim took little time to retort saying that Bravo must not beg money to him.
‘Don’t come to our country and beg money,’ Tamim replied, prompting Bravo and some other West Indies players to move to him. Square-leg umpire intervened immediately to calm the situation as Tamim returned to concentrate on his batting.
A hearing took place after the game and Bravo was fined 30 per cent of his match fee for bringing the game into disrepute.
The whole conversation was recorded in stump vision camera, though it did not go on air, said television commentator, who closely monitored the event from the commentary box.
Bravo never played in the BPL and so did most of the West Indies players of the current Test squad, still the BPL payment issue was the talk in their dressing room, said the commentator close to local players.
