The ruling Awami League on Tuesday said that door is still open for the Opposition chief Khaleda Zia to sit for a dialogue on the formation of an election-time government to oversee the 10th parliamentary poll. The party also hoped that the general election would be held in a free, fair and credible manner with the participation of all political parties.“The call for sitting across the table to the Opposition is still on and will remain. We hope the Opposition will accept our Premier’s offer and sit for talks to resolve the political impasse,” Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim told reporters at a press conference. The news conference was held at the Awami League president, Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the afternoon after an hour-long meeting between the party’s central leaders and AL lawmakers of the capital.
Replying to a question, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said the AL-led government was not worried over the Opposition’s anti-government movement. The Prime Minister proposed to the Opposition leader to sit for a dialogue in a bid to make the election free, fair and acceptable to all.
Replying to another question, Hanif said the talks offer and forging resistance to the Opposition’s destructive activities will run simultaneously.
Addressing the press conference, Mohammad Nasim termed the Opposition’s 60-hour countrywide strike as “illogical” and said Begum Zia had enforced the hartal out of revenge.
