The Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to host a Dhaka Premier League awards night, a BCB official said on Monday. The sponsors’ prizes for the DPL have been a laughing stock among local clubs and cricketers since 2008, as very few have ever actually received their awards after being announced as winners. Jalal Yunus, a BCB ad hoc committee member and the chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, admitted to the BCB’s failure to disburse prizes to winners since 2008.
‘I cannot say why the awards have not been distributed since 2008,’ Jalal said during the DPL
sponsor-signing ceremony at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
‘We hope to arrange an awards night where the prizes of the DPL will be distributed,’ he added.
BCB officials had announced a similar awards night for an earlier edition of the DPL but it ultimately did not take place.
Walton, the sponsor of this year’s DPL, announced that the champions will receive a 365-litre refrigerator, while the runners-up will receive a 244-litre refrigerator and the third-place team will get a 191-litre fridge.
The highest run scorer and the highest wicket taker will each get a 100cc Walton motorcycle. Every man of the match winner will receive either a Walton cooker or a blender, according to Walton operative director Uday Hakim.
