Draw ruled the Bangladesh Premier League matches on Friday as table-toppers Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were held 1-1 by Uttar Baridhara at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday. The other two matches of the day between Team BJMC v Chittagong Abahnai and Muktijoddha Sangsad KC v Feni Soccer Club also ende in 1-1 draw. With the draw, Jamal stayed top of the table with 39 points from 17 matches while Uttar Baridhara remained in the eighth place with 12 points from same number of matches.
Baridhara took the lead in the 17th minute through their Kenyan striker Collins Tiego’s glancing header from a lovely cross from Khalekur.
Jamal levelled the score in the 27th minute thanks to a fierce 20-yard drive from their Haitian forward Sony Norde.
Sheikh Jamal were reduced to 10 men after Ameka Darlington was shown the red card for kicking Baridhra keeper Osman Gani.
Norde wasted a golden opportunity to seal the victory for Jamal in the 87th minute when he failed to convert from the penalty spot. Substitute defender Saidur Rahman brought Wedson down inside the box and the referee awarded the penalty to Jamal but Norde blasted the ball over the crossbar.
In another match at the same venue, BJMC’s Guinean striker Ismail Bangoura broke the deadlock in the 79th minute against Chittagong Abahani.
But substitute midfielder Abdul Hannan restored parity after a quick counter-attack in the 85th minute.
With the draw, BJMC remained in sixth place with 19 points from 17 matches while bottom-placed Chittagong Abahani earned nine points from same number of matches.
Away at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj, Shafiqul Islam Bipul put Muktijoddha ahead in the 24th minute but Gambian forward Landing Derboe salvage a point for Feni Soccer in the 40th minute.
Muktijoddah remained in their previous fifth position with 23 points after 16 matches while Feni Soccer are in ninth position with 11 points from same number of outings.
