The election commission of Dhaka Stock Exchange last week announced its election schedule and submitted it to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission.
As per the election schedule, the elections for the posts of four vacant directors will be held on June 10, DSE officials said.Of the 25 directors of the DSE, 12 are elected, 12 are nominated from different business bodies and the rest one is the chief executive officer of the DSE and every year four elected directors retire from their posts.
This year the elections will be held for filling up four director posts as the two-year term of Rakibur Rahman, president of the DSE, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, Khwaja Ghulam Rasul and Sharif Ataur Rahman will end.
Last year, the election to the bourse’s four director posts was held in March. The DSE board at a meeting on March 15 decided to hold the regular elections this year in three months delay instead of March.
The DSE board pointed out demutualisation for the delay. ‘We hope that the demutualisation act might be passed in the next session of the parliament. So, we have decided to delay the elections,’ DSE president Rakibur Rahman had told New Age after the board meeting.
He said, ‘As the parliament session ended earlier than the scheduled time, we have decided to hold the elections to the board of directors in June this year.’
‘We have already sent an application to the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms to extend time by three months for holding our board of directors’ elections,’ Rakibur said.
The DSE election commission headed by University Grants Commission member Abul Hashem announced the election schedule last week.
According to the election schedule, the draft voters’ list will be published on April 30 and the final list will be published on May 5.
The annual general meeting’s date was set on June 13, three days after the elections. The next president, senior-vice president and vice-president will be elected at the AGM.
Interested candidates have to express intention to participate in the elections within May 9 and they will be allowed to participate subject to getting the none-obligation-certificates from the BSEC.
According to the election schedule the candidates will submit their nomination papers within May 27 after getting NOCs from the BSEC. The election commission will publish the list of eligible candidates on that day.
