The 45 Convocation of Dhaka University (DU) will be held on January 29, 2009.
Honorary ‘Doctor of Science’ degrees would be conferred on three persons on the occasion, said a DU press release here on Tuesday.
The university will confer honorary Doctorate degree to Nobel laureate Emirates Prof. Yuan Tseh Lee of Taiwan.
Professor Lee, who also won Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1986, is the President of Institute of Atomic and Molecular Science Academia Sinica of Taipei based Genomic Research Center.
During the convocation, the DU will also confer ‘Doctorate of Science, Honoris Causa’ degree on Prof.Abul Hussam, who is also a professor of George-Mason University of USA.
Prof. Abul Hussam, also received Graainger Challenge Gold Medal from National Academy of Engineers’ of USA in 2007 for Innovation of ‘Sono Filter’ to remove arsonic from drinking water.
Prof. Abul Hussam was the student of Chemistry Department of Dhaka University.
The university also decided to confer an hononary doctorate to noted historian Prof Ranajit Guha in the convocation.
The decision was taken to give hononary doctorates to three persons on the basis of recommendation of the DU deans committee at a meeting held yesterday, the release added.
