Pro-Awami League Blue Panel teachers of Dhaka University on Tuesday held demonstrations protesting at the 13-point demand placed forth by Hefajat-e-Islam.
Terming the demand as a ‘charter of medieval darkness era’, they urged the government to arrest those who were misusing Islam, rather than the bloggers and online activists.
Addressing a human chain on the campus, Blue Panel convener Imamul Haque said, ‘Negotiation with Hefajat will not bring fruitful outcome in the next election for the government.’
‘The government is yet to take action against those who set ablaze the national flag,’ he said.
DU Teachers’ Association president Farid Uddin Ahmad said, ‘We are ready to initiate another fight against war criminals for ensuring their punishment for genocide and crime against humanity they committed in 1971.’
Condemning the recent communal frenzy in different districts of the country, co-convener of the panel AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan said the anti-liberation forces were out to destroy the spirit of independence war.
Islamic history and culture professor Akhtaruzzaman, ABM Faroque, mass communications and journalism professor Sheikh Abdus Salam, among some 100 teachers, attended the programme.
Later, they brought out a silent procession that paraded different streets on the campus.
Meanwhile, the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed White Panel teachers in a statement condemned the arrest of BNP leaders.
