Former students of the Department of English of Dhaka University yesterday gathered at the green meadow of the Teacher Student Centre (TSC) and recalled their past memories during their get together on the campus. Like the previous years, English Department Alumni Association organised the reunion at the TSC where the former students of the department gather in the afternoon. The programme began at 4:30 pm with alumni Sylvia Islam moderating. One minute silence was observed in memory of the late professor Khandaker Ashraf Hossain and former CEO of Nandan Group and president of the Alumni Association Mashrur Chowdhury. After that, current students rendered songs in chorus. Chairperson of the department Professor Tahmina Ahmed delivered her speech followed by Professor Syed Monjurul Islam. General Secretary of the association, Toufique Imroz Khalidi presented the annual report of the association. Later, Principal Jalaluddin Ahmed gold Medal and Society Awards were given. After the award giving ceremony, a cultural programme was held. The Department of English of Dhaka University started its journey in 1921 but the Alumni Association came into being in December, 1986. It was the 28th reunion of the association. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhit, who is a former student of the department, was present on the occasion.
