Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) held its first “Pet Carnival” today at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) to promote awareness about the welfare of animals on campus.
The event was organized in collaboration with Ducsu, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and Care DU.
Anas Ibne Monir, a Ducsu executive member and one of the event’s organizers, mentioned that the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock provided funding and medical services, including vaccinations and treatments, for the occasion.
Students engaged in various activities, such as a “Pet Ramp Walk” and a creative segment called “Dress as You Like,” where pets were showcased in unique styles.
Three special competitions for cats were conducted, featuring a ramp show with their owners, an eating contest, and a creative dressing competition.
Organizers announced that each of the university’s 18 hall unions would receive animal food worth approximately Tk 2 lakh, which includes 10-12 kg packets for cats and dogs, along with shelter boxes and bird nests.
Free medical services were provided for pets, with consultations available from skilled veterinarians.
The venue was equipped with modern tools, including ultrasonography machines.
Registered participants were given T-shirts and snacks, while pets received small gift items.
Anas told The Daily Star, “Our main goal is to encourage love, empathy, and compassion towards animals, particularly cats.”
