Dhaka Dynamites, one of the most glamorous franchises in the National Cricket League Twenty20 competition, have set their eyes on the trophy with a range of local and international stars in their fold.
‘We have lot of ammunition and we will explode them at the appropriate time,’ said Khaled Mahmud, who was named as the coach of the side at a press conference on Saturday.
‘The players looked highly motivated. I am seeing a lot of enthusiasm in them. Hopefully they are good enough to win the trophy. We just need to stick to the basics,’ said Mahmud.
The owner of the franchise Beximco Group named Mohammad Ashraful as their captain and Mahmudullah as the vice-captain. They named three overseas players in Pakistani Imran Nazir and Sri Lankan Milinda Siriwardana and Jeewan Mendis, although there was confusion about the former joining the side.
A few other franchises also claimed to have confirmed the services of Nazir, but Dynamites officials said he will bat for them.
‘He (Nazir) has already signed the contract papers and sent them back to us. Hopefully he will join us tomorrow [Sunday],’ said Shayan F Rahman, a director of Beximco Group, who is supervising the activities of Dynamites.
Nazmul Hasan MP, managing director of Beximco Pharma and Shinepukur Ceramics, said his company has always had some kind of affiliation with sports and their involvement in the NCL will only increase the bondage.
‘We were always interested in sport. When the Bangladesh Cricket Board introduced the Corporate Cricket League we formed a team and were champions in its first edition,’ said Hasan.
‘Last time we also became runners-up in the Corporate Cricket League. We have been patronising Abhahani Limited for many years and a number of senior cricketers are our employees,’ he said.
Hasan revealed that they have a plan to award Dynamites players huge incentives should they win the tournament.
He regretted missing the services of paceman Mashrafee bin Murtaza, who has been prised by Sultans of Sylhet.
‘Whenever we built a team, he was always with us. But this time we were not sure if he would be available or not. If we knew we would have picked him,’ said the Dynamites official.
Dynamites captain Ashraful said he was very keen to take Mashrafee despite the uncertainty over his participation.
‘We were the fifth team to turn up in the lottery and Sylhet were third and they gave us no chance to rope in Mashrafee,’ said Ashraful.
Dynamites will open their campaign against Barisal Blazers on Monday.
