Dhaka Dynamites ended their Destiny Group National Cricket League Twenty20 group phase with an eight-wicket victory over Rajshahi Rangers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
In the day’s other match, Sultans of Sylhet also posted a 37-run win over Kings of Khulna to finish the group fixtures.
Earlier, both Dhaka Dynamites and Sultans of Sylhet had confirmed their semi-final spots.
Dhaka Dynamites bundled out Rajshahi Rangers for a paltry 83 and then scored 84 for two with five overs to spare. Sultans of Sylhet opted to bat first and made a fighting total of 150 for eight in the stipulated 20 overs. Later they restricted Kings of Khulna to 113 for seven.
Dhaka Dynamites attack formed with spinner Mohammad Rafique, pacer Shahadat Hossain and Mohammad Shahzada ripped the heart out of Rajshahi batting line-up all taking two wickets for six, 13 and 14 runs respectively. Rangers, who opted to bat first, could never recover from the disaster. Number seven Sohrawardi Shuvo contributed 33 runs in 25 balls with two fours and two-down Naeem Islam chipped in with 26 runs off 56 balls with one four to save the team from more blushes. Muktar Ali’s 15 from seven balls with two boundaries was also a notable score.
Dhaka Dynamites faced no trouble in reaching their target of 84 runs in 15 overs. After opener Shamsur Rahman and one-down Jahurul Islam had departed making 18 and one another opener T Kandambi and two-down Mahmudullah took Dhaka Dynamites home with five overs to spare. Kandambi scored 43 runs from 39 balls hitting three fours and two sixes while Mahmudullah added 20 runs in 17 balls with two fours and a six. Shahadat Hossain of Dhaka Dynamites was named the man of the match.
Sultans of Sylhet openers Gazi Salahuddin and K Weeraratna gave their team a flying start with an 86-run first-wicket partnership in 10 overs against Kings of Khulna.
Weeraratna scored 47 runs off 32 balls with seven fours and a six while Salahuddin made 42 from 39 balls with five fours and a six. Hard-hitting middle order Nazmul Hossain Milon hammered 28 runs off 15 balls with two fours and two sixes and one-down Indika de Saram scored a run-a-ball 12 to take the team’s total to a fighting position.
Left-arm spinners Abdur Razzak and Sakib al Hasan and pacer Dollar Mahmud all had two-wicket hauls for 19, 29 and 31 runs respectively.
Kings of Khulna were never in contention in the match losing wickets at regular interval. Middle-order Farhad Hossain’s 26 off 34 balls with one four and number six batsman Tushar Imran’s 20 in 23 balls with a six just reduced the margin of defeat. Imrul Kayes scored a run-a-ball 19 with two fours and skipper Sakib al Hasan contributed 15 from 19 balls hitting a four.
Fariduddin Masud was adjudged as the man of the match for his three-wicket haul for 16 runs. Saju Datta bagged two wickets for 20 runs.
