A three-day e-commerce fair began in Sylhet on Thursday.
The finance minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, inaugurated the first ever e-commerce fair in Sylhet through video conference from his office in Dhaka in the morning.
The district administration and Computer Jagath, a monthly periodical, jointly arranged the fair at Mohammad Ali Gymnasium of Sylhet District Stadium in the city.
Stated operation of PayPal, the faster and safer online method in making payment and receiving money, would be launched in the country within one month and a half, Muhith said.
Sylhet city mayor Badar Uddin Ahmad Kamran, deputy commissioner Khan Mohammed Bilal and Computer Jagath chief executive technologist Mohammad Abdul Wahed Tamal, among others, also addressed the inaugural programme.
Mentioning the county has a huge potential in e-commerce, the speakers said the major advantage of e-commerce was to offer the scope of buying goods in an easy way that lessen the traffic congestion and unavailability of any good.
The fair venue would remain open for all from 10:00am to 8:00pm every day.
