Abahani Limited and Dordoi Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan started their AFC President’s Cup Group A campaigns with facile victories respectively over New Road Team of Nepal and Hasus NTCPE at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Abahani defeated the Nepalese outfit 2-0 with Enamul scoring a brace while two-time champions Dordoi thrashed the Taipei physical education institution 5-0. Forward David Tetteh and midfielder Ildar Amirov scored two goals each while substitute midfielder Artem Muladjanov netted the other.
Abahani took the lead in the 27th minute when Enamul slotted home from close range after his Ghanaian attacking partner Awudu Ibrahim set him free with a square pass.
Enamul converted a 71st-minute penalty after Zahed Parvez’s shot hit the hand of defender Jeevan Sinkemana.
Shayan Mosavi, the Danish forward of New Road, hit the crosspiece in the 76th minute with a cracker from the top of the box.
Earlier in the opening match, five-time finalists Dordoi Bishkek registered an easy 5-0 win over Hasus NTCPE of Chinese Taipei, who played the last 25 minutes with 10 men after their midfielder Linthi was sent off for a second bookable offence.
David Tetteh, the Ghanaian forward of Dorddoi, put his team ahead in the 14th minute with a diagonal placing shot from a Yuri Volos pass.
Hasus hit back with a swift counter-attack in the 33rd minute as Chen Po Liang found Dordoi goalkeeper Vladislav Volkov at his mercy but saw his shot punched to safety.
Dordoi midfielder Alexander Mysikov released Tetteh in the 43rd minute but the Ghanaian lost control of the ball and Hsu Ming dived into his feet to collect it.
Tetteh made amends for his failure scoring the second goal in the first-half stoppage time, Mysikov floated a perfectly weighted long ball and striker rounded his marker before hitting the far post net with a powerful right-footer.
Dordoi continued their dominance after the break and Ildar Amirov, the lanky midfielder, scored the third in the 76th minute after Yuri Volos’ fierce grounder slipped out of Hsu Ming’s grip and unmarked Amirov toe-poked the ball in.
Substitute midfielder Artem Muladjanov netted the fourth as he dribbled past three defenders and also Hsu Ming before putting the ball into the empty net.
Chu Chia Kun tested Volkov with a long-range effort in the 85th minute but Dordoi goalie was in the right position to fist the ball away.
Amirov nailed the fifth goal and his second in the 90th minute after Muladjanov’s chip found him free in the box and he coolly slotted the ball past Hsu Ming at the keeper’s far post.
