Election commissioner Abdul Mobarak on Thursday said the Election Commission would examine whether it can introduce the no-vote system again.
Mobarak, who is now in charge of chief election commissioner, said this while receiving a memorandum from Progressive Democratic Alliance at his office.
The Progressive Democratic Alliance formed a human chain at the main entrance of the EC secretariat at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar demanding re-introduction of no-vote system.
Later, a delegation of the alliance met Abdul Mobarak at his office to submit the memorandum.
Calling on the EC to re-introduce the ‘no-vote’ system, the memorandum said the provision would enable people to express their no-confidence towards criminilazed politics as well as to the corrupt individuals.
After receiving the memorandum, Abdul Mobarak assured the alliance delegation that he would discuss the matter with the other election commissioners as well as with the chief election commissioner, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, on his return from Bhutan next week.
Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, election commissioner Shah Nawaz and EC secretary Muhammed Sadique are now in Bhutan to attend the annual general meeting of the Association of South Asian Election Management Bodies.
