A meeting of the editors of different newspapers Editors’ Council with the aim of ‘strengthening the editorial institution, develop professional of standard of journalists and play an active role in safeguarding the full freedom of the press and freedom of expression’. The meeting of editors held at the Daily Star office on Monday with the The Independent editor Mahbubul Alam in chair, unanimously elected Samokal editor Golam Sarwar as President, Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam as general secretary and ManabJamin editor Matiur Rahman Choudhury as treasurer, says a press release.
Other members of the Council are: Mahbubul Alam (Independent), Anwar Hossain (Ittefaq), Motiur Rahman (Prothom Alo), Reazuddin Ahmed (News Today), AMM Bahauddin (Inqilab), AHM Moazzem Hossain (Financial Express), Nurul Kabir (New Age), Shymol Dutta (Bhorer Kagoj), Imdadul Huq Milon (Kaler Kantho), Naeem Nijam (Bangladesh Protidin), Khandaker Muniruzzaman (Sangbad), Alamgir Mohiuddin (Naya Digonta), Mostafa Kamal Majumdar (New Nation), Mojammel Huq (Korotoa), MA Malek (Azadi) and architect Taslimuddin Choudhury (Purbokon).
