Only a few out of the 70 audio and video albums released in a week during the Eid-ul-Azha could make profit, said sources at the production houses of the country. The production houses admitted that their strategy of releasing huge number of albums to resurrect the slumped trade audio market had actually failed. They further admitted that only a few albums featuring star singers could do the expected business. In fact, the prediction made by the audio market analysts did came true: the run-of-the-mill approach of the production houses to revive the industry by releasing self-produced albums by the young singers went in vain.
And the production houses do agree with the argument. ‘Since the audio market has not been steady and rewarding for the production houses over the years, we did not take the risk of producing expensive albums featuring prominent singers and bands,’ said an official of Laser Vision preferring anonymity.
But the irony is that, the few albums that did well were by the noted artistes.
The best selling albums of the popular production house Laser Vision were Samina Chowdhury’s Cholo Banchi and songs of the Eid film Purna Dhourgha Prem Kahini.
The ten songs of Samina’s solo Cholo Banchi has been written by Zulfiqer Rasel and composed by Nakib Khan, Pilu Khan, Rupankar Bagchi, Joy Sarkar and Raghab Chatarjee. Naming the songs in the album: Cholo banchi, Amay bojhe emon manush, Keno eto dure achho and others.
One of the most popular albums released this Eid is songs of the film Purna Dhourgha Prem Kahini. Written by Kabir Bakul and sung by Chandan Sinha, the song – Ami niswa hoye jabo has been set as welcome tunes and ring tones in tens of thousands of cell phones after its release, informed an official of Laser Vision.
Most of the self-produced albums by the upcoming artistes had been released under the banner of Agniveena. But, 30 albums released by the production house appeared to be flop projects except for the popular singer, Topu’s, solo Ar Tomake.
Ar Tomake includes a number of songs written and composed by Topu himself, and the album has the typical melodious style found in Topu’s songs.
Another album of the production house released in Eid-ul-Fitr – Nimantran by Prince Mahmud – was sold in numbers this Eid-ul-Azha.
‘Though many of our albums feature new and emerging singers, it is true that albums by prominent artistes always sell well,’ said an official of G-Series.
Asif and Nancy’s duet album Jhograr Gaan, under the banner of Arb Entertainment, was another album to get good turnovers this Eid.
Among the new artistes’ albums some have got appreciatory notice from the music lovers. Elias Ahmed’s solo Na Bola Kotha 2 under the banner of CD Choice, Saju’s Autograph Photograph, and Tausif’s Onubhab under the banner of G-Series, were among the appreciated albums.
