Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested eight people in an allegation of theft at the city’s Lalmatia Sonali Bank branch early Monday.
The arrested persons were identified as Harun-ur-Rashid, 45, Badal, 42, Emdadul Haque alias Chanchal, 48, Raju alias Mostofa, 45, Mohammad Laton, 30, Mohammad Harun, 40, Younus Alias Sagor, 30, and Hannan, 50. The arrestees are the members of an organised thief gang called ‘Tana Party’, according to police. Joint Commissioner of DB police Monirul Islam said, on August 26, Hamidur Rahman, an executive, went to Sonali Bank Lalmatia Branch to make a pay-order of Tk two million.
At that time, the above mentioned people were present at the bank disguised as customers and secretly managed to take Tk 9,00,000 from Hamidur Rahman’s bag, which was recorded at the Close Circuit (CC) Camera of the Bank.
After the incident, Hamidur Rahman, filed a case with Mohammadpur police station and the police along with the intelligence agency is looking into the case, he said.
