England beat Iran 6-2 in their first World Cup game in Group B on Monday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. They scored three goals before and after halftime.
Bellingham scored when he headed in a cross from the left by Luke Shaw in the 35th minute, making him the second-youngest England player to score in a World Cup. This was a reward for England’s dominance. Saka shot with his left foot into the top corner in the 43rd minute, and two minutes later, Sterling poked in a third goal after Harry Kane passed the ball to him.
Iran had a rough first half, and they had to change goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand because he hurt his head when he collided with teammate Hosseini Majid. This caused 14 minutes of stoppage time.
In the second half, England picked up where they left off. In the 62nd minute, Saka scored twice. Mehdi Taremi scored for Iran three minutes later, but that was just a blip on the radar for the Three Lions as Rashford and Grealish both scored after that.
Iran scored a consolation goal when Taremi scored again, but this time it was from a penalty kick.
