The Bangladesh Cricket Board will conduct English language courses along with other educational programmes for the national cricketers through their educational partner American International University of Bangladesh, said an official of the BCB on Thursday.
AIUB, the educational partner of BCB from October 2012 till September 2015, carried out an English language course at the Sahara-BCB National Cricket Academy for the Under 19 cricketers to enhance their English speaking skills, a basic necessity for any international cricketer.
The lack of acquaintance with the English language of some national stars were exposed at the presentation ceremony after the conclusion of the second and final Test match against Zimbabwe recently when skipper Mushfiqur Rahim acted as an interpreter for Robiul Islam, who was adjudged man-of-the-series.
‘We will try to conduct some short courses for the national cricketers,’ Gazi Ashraf Hossain told reporters at the Sahara-BCB NCA premises on Thursday.
‘The national players need to understand the importance of the English language as it is required to communicate in order to share their experiences with the other international cricketers both at home and abroad,’ said Ashraf.
Under the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), AIUB agreed to conduct short-term English language classes, programmes, leadership courses, cultural awareness classes & computer fundamental courses and other educational lessons for national players as and when the BCB finds it essential.
AIUB provides annual scholarships to six cricketers from the Under 19, Academy and national team who are enrolled in the private university’s undergraduate and graduate programmes while they will instal a computer lab on the Sahara-BCB NCA premises with 10 NOS computers to develop the computer knowledge of the national cricketers.
