Chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) HM Ershad on Friday demanded the resignation of Minister for Home Affairs Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir for his “irresponsible statements” over the tragic accident of Savar building collapse that crushed at least 300 garment workers and injured another 2,500. “The statement of the Home Minister that the building collapsed as some fundamentalists and hartal supporters had shaken its cracked pillar is not only ridiculous but an evil attempt to cover the truth and protect the real criminals. Thus, I demand the resignation of the irresponsible and isolated home minister,” he said in a statement issued on Friday.
Saleh Nur, a member of communication team of JP, a major ally of the Awami League-led 18-party ruling alliance, released the statement for the press.
Ershad, who is now visiting Vietnam, also demanded the arrest of Sohel Rana, the owner of the ill-fated collapsed building Rana Plaza and a leader of Savar Juba League within the next 24 hours.
