Jatiya Party President H. M. Ershad might nominate his wife Roushan Ershad in the by-election in one of his two vacated constituencies to take her to Parliament, sources said, though a number of Jatiya Party leaders have begun lobbying with the high ups of the party for getting nomination in the by-election at Rangpur-3 constituency.
Rangpur-3 and Kurigram-2 parliamentary constituencies have been vacated as Jatiya Party Chairman H.M Ershad left these before taking oath. He retained Dhaka-17 constituency for his parliament membership.
Sources of JP said that Jatiya Party presidium member former JP MP and Ershad’s younger brother Mozammel Hosen Lalu, former JP MP Moshiur Rahman Ranga, former MP and president of JP of the district unit Karim Uddin Varosha and JP leader Fakhruz Zaman Jahangir have started lobbying for themselves.
Ershad’s younger brother and former MP Mozammel Hosen Lalu was elected in Kurigram-3 constituency in 1996 election. In the 2001 election he did not seek nomination. Family sources said that Lalu was trying to convince Ershad for nomination in the by-election at Rangpur-3 constituency.
JP’s former MP Moshiur Rahman Ranga won in the 2001 election from Rangpur-1 (Gangachara) constituency. In the last election, JP nominated him for Lalmonirhat-1 constituency but later he was withdrawn from there as grand alliance nominated AL leader Motahar Hossen.
Karim Uddin Varosha was elected MP thrice with Jatiya Party ticket. In 1991 election he won at Rangpur-1, and in the 1996 and 2001 elections he won from Rangpur-4 (Kounia Pirgachha). But in the last election he lost to AL candidate Tipu Munshi at Rangpur-4 constituency.
Fakhruz Zaman fought for the first time in Rangpur-5 in the last election but lost to AL candidate H.N Ashiqur Rahman. A reliable source of JP said that Ershad might nominate his wife Roushan Ershad in the by-election in this constituency.
