Two films screened on the opening day
The two-week European Film Festival began with screening of two films on Sunday at the Star Cineplex of Bashundhara
Garden City market in the capital.
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated
the festival as the chief guest.
Each of the films will be screened at two different times of the day-one in the morning and another in the evening.
The festival, which has been organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, will also feature 14 more films from eight other European countries including Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, England, and Switzerland.
The films screened on the opening day were Sonny Boy from Netherlands at 11:00am and 4:30pm, and La Seconda Notte di Nozze (The Second Wedding Night) from Italy at 1:45pm and 7:00pm. Directed by Maria Peters, Sonny Boy is based on a true story about interracial love during the World War 2. La Seconda Notte di Nozze is a comedy-drama film directed by Pupi Avati. It entered the 2005 Venice Film Festival and Katia Ricciarelli won Nastro d’Argento for Best Actress for her role in the movie.
The other films which will be showcased at the festival are: The Snow Cave Man and The Orange Girl from Norway, Even the Rain and REC from Spain, a British film called Blindsight, a Swiss film titled Sister, Easy Money and Cops from Sweden, Krabat and Neukolln Unlimited from Germany, The Triplets of Belleville and Game of Love & Chance Songs from France, This Life and Melancolia from Denmark.
Each ticket for a single show has been priced at 200 taka and one can enjoy the total package of 16 films for only 1,600 taka.
