Former Chief Justice Ruhul Amin died early Sunday morning at the age of 83 due to health issues related to aging.
The chief justice’s office said in a condolence message that his passing occurred around 4:30 am while he was receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
Namaz-e janaza for him will take place in the Supreme Court’s inner courtyard after the Zuhr prayer on Tuesday (26 November), with attendance from the Chief Justice and other justices, the message also mentioned.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed expressed sorrow over the passing and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
In honor of the late justice, all court activities in both divisions of the Supreme Court will be paused today. Administrative functions at the registry building will proceed as normal.
Justice Ruhul Amin was born in 1941 in Lakshmipur and earned his Master’s in political science in 1962, followed by an LLB in 1965 from Dhaka University.
He became a High Court justice on February 18, 1992, and was elevated to the Appellate Division on January 11, 2001, serving as the 15th chief justice from March 1, 2007, to May 31, 2008.
