To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Alliance Française de Dhaka, in association with the French embassy, has organised an exhibition featuring a collection of unpublished photographs of Tagore and Santiniketan.
Titled Tagore, the Universal Message, the exhibition will be going on at the La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka until 25 June.
The photographs on display were taken by Alain Daniélou and Raymond Burnier and collected by Dr Samuel Berthet, director of Alliance Française de Chittagong.
The displayed photographs had been taken in 1935 when Alain Daniélou and Raymond Burnier visited Rabindranath Tagore.
The exhibition includes a total of 97 photographs. The collection was believed to be lost until August 2010. Samuel Berthet discovered them in the Alain Danielou Raymond Burnier Photo Collection (DBPC).
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhit inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest. Governor of Bangladesh Bank Atiur Rahman and Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Mijarul Quayes were present as special guests on the occasion.
Rajeet Mitter, high commissioner of India in Bangladesh, and Charley Causeret, ambassador of France, attended the event as guests of honour.
