Sylhet Metropolitan Police on Monday morning unearthed a factory producing fake food, drink and vitamin products from a house on the city outskirts.
The detective branch of police also arrested the managing director and an employee of the factory.
During a two-hour drive from 7:00am to 9:00am, six manufacturing machines worth around Tk 25 lakh and a huge number of oral saline, testy saline, packet salt, powdered drink, energy capsule, jujube pickle and saccharin and rolled labels of food items used for packaging the products were seized.
The arrested were identified as Ali Ahmed, 29, managing director of Bio Natural Foods at Maiyarchar under Jalalabad police station of the SMP, and Mamun Ahmed, 18, an employee of the factory.
SMP additional commissioner Rokan Uddin disclosed the information in a press briefing at the metropolitan police headquarters at Nayarpul in the city in the afternoon.
He said the factory was producing different food items using chemicals and toxic colours for more than two years and marketed them using false labels of well-known brands.
