A family planning inspector died by suicide after allegedly killing his nine-year-old daughter in Sirajganj’s Ullapara upazila today, said police quoting family members.
The deceased were identified as Monjurul Alam Rajib, 40, an inspector of family planning of Bangala union in Sirajganj’s Ullapara upazila, and his daughter Rifat Tasnim Raka (9), our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station.
Quoting family members, OC Humayun Kabir said the victim’s wife and their other daughter found Monjurul hanging from the ceiling, and Rifat’s body lying on the floor in the house’s same room in Binayakpur area after they returned home from a neighbor’s house around 10am.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the house and sent them to Sirajganj general hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC, adding that police are investigating the incident.
Monjurul’s mental condition was not stable, said the police official quoting the family.
Based on primary investigation, police suspected that Monjurul might have committed suicide by hanging himself after killing his daughter Rifat, the OC added.
However, the reason behind the alleged murder and suicide could not be known immediately.
Talking to this correspondent, Md Nasir Uddin, Rajib’s colleague said they are shocked over the incident and were seeking proper investigation.
