Middle-order batsman Farhad Hossain cracked a century to help BCB North Zone complete the day one comfortably at 287-4 against Walton Central Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League which resumed after a break at BKSP on Saturday. In the other match, Abdur Razzak and Sohag Gazi shared seven wickets between them as Prime Bank South Zone bowled out Islami Bank East Zone for a paltry 135 in 69.4 overs.
Opener Anamul Haque struck an unbeaten half-century to lead South Zone to 108-1 at close on the opening day.
Central v BCB North
Mosharraf Hossain, who was playing his first match after his suspension was withdrawn by the BCB, gave Central Zone their first breakthrough after Hamidul Islam (60) and Junaed Siddique (65) put on 88 runs in the opening stand.
Junaed played a typically aggressive innings to hit 11 boundaries.
Hamidul took the role of an anchor, facing 151 deliveries on his way to half-century. He gave a valuable support to centurion Farhad, adding 85 runs for the second wicket to build on the foundation laid by their opening pair.
Farhad displayed a perfect temperament suited for the longer-version format and went on to score 109 runs from 199 balls that included 14 fours and a six.
Farhad and Naeem Islam (38) put on 108 runs for the third wicket and just when it seemed they were going to see off the day, left-arm spinner Elias Sunny struck twice in the space of two balls to bring Central back into the contest.
Farhad was caught by Mohammad Sharif before Naeem was stumped by Nurul Hasan.
South Zone v East Zone
Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak grabbed 4-34 while Sohag Gazi claimed 3-41 as South Zone dismissed their eastern counterparts cheaply before the batsmen took complete control of the game.
Only skipper Alok Kapali provided some resistance for East Zone scoring 56 from 134 balls with four fours and two sixes.
Left-arm spinner Nazmul Apu also took the wicket of Kapali as East Zone lost their last six wickets for 20 runs.
Openers Anamul and Imrul Kayes (38) gave South Zone a perfect start with an 81-run opening stand before the side reached within 27 runs of their opponents at stumps on the opening day.
Left-arm spinner Enamul Haque grabbed the only wicket that fell in South Zone’s innings.
