Renowned Lalon Sangeet singer Farida Parveen has been hospitalized due to breathing difficulties. Her husband, instrumentalist Gazi Abdul Hakim, informed media that she was admitted early on Saturday.
Gazi Abdul Hakim mentioned that Farida Parveen is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, as fluids have built up in her lungs, along with several other complications.
Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, the Managing Director of Universal Medical College, provided an update on her condition. He said, “She was admitted at dawn due to acute respiratory distress. After necessary tests, she was placed in the ICU. Her lungs are affected, and she also suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, and age-related complications. She is currently under the care of specialists in respiratory diseases, nephrology, and critical care. Her condition is somewhat complex, and we have recommended dialysis. Let’s see how things progress.”
Farida began her journey in music by singing Nazrul Sangeet as a listed artist at the Rajshahi Radio Centre in 1968. However, she gained popularity for her patriotic songs around 1973. She was trained in Lalon Sangeet by Moksed Ali Shah.
In recognition of her significant contributions to music, Farida Parveen was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1987. Additionally, she received the ‘Fukuwaka Asian Culture Award’ from the Japanese government in 2008 and won the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer in 1993. She has also established a singing school called ‘Ochin Pakhi School’ to teach Lalon Sangeet to children.
