Mostafa Swarwar Farooki’s film Television is getting commercial release simultaneously in three Korean cities Seoul, Busan and Daegu on Friday.
Farooki will be visiting Korea for three days for the release of the film, which had earlier been the bookender of the Busan
International Film Festival in 2012.
‘It’s a very good news not only for me but also for the Bangladeshi film industry as it’s really difficult to get commercial release through international distributor channels,’ an excited Farooki told New Age.
In fact, Farooki’s Television has more good news to tell. The comical satire will be aired on the Malaysian TV giant Astro. The channel has purchased the copyright of the film to be aired in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
In addition, the TV channel and its sister concern Astro radio have been broadcasting Farooki’s interview.
It will also represent Bangladesh at the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film in the upcoming 86th edition of the Oscars.
‘We should work together for the expansion of the local film market. Following the examples set by the Indians for the access of their films across the globe, we should take measures to give commercial release of the Bangladeshi films abroad. And the expatriates living abroad should watch these films so that the foreigners also get interest. The government should also take the issue seriously and frame a policy for the smooth distribution of films in home and abroad,’ Farooki said.
Farooki further said that Television is also participating in the upcoming Kerela, Kolakata and Jakarta film festivals. It is to be noted that a Korean producer will produce Farooki’s next film Pirabiadya and will help the distribution of the film in international market.
