The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Monday expressed its grave concern over the unrest and vandalism in garment sector.
The country’s apex trade body voiced its concern as the apparel workers were staging demonstrations to realise their demand for an increase in monthly wage.In a press release, the FBCCI urged the government to take necessary steps to quell the unrest for what it said the garment sector was passing through a crucial time at home and abroad.
‘It is unexpected. When the government and private sector have made a joint effort to restore the Generalised System of Preferences facilities in the US market, a section of miscreants is creating violence in the sector,’ the release said.
The FBCCI also urged the government to resolve the problems immediately through discussion with the owners and workers for the sake of the country’s economic growth.
