Tax Return Submission
FBCCI for extending deadline to Oct 31
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Monday urged the government to extend the deadline for submission of income tax returns from September 30 to October 31. The apex chamber in a statement said that many of the new taxpayers were facing troubles in taking online taxpayers’ identification numbers (e-TINs) while existing taxpayers were also facing problems in replacing their old 10-digit TINs with the new 12-digit e-TINs .
Taxpayers also find difficulty in taking e-TINs because of the reshuffling of
the tax circles by the National Board of Revenue last year.
Besides, taxpayers will not be able to submit their income tax returns in due time ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja, said the statement.
‘Considering the reasons, the FBCCI on behalf of the business community requested for extending time-limit for submitting income tax returns by one month,’ it said.
The FBCCI has already sent its request to the finance ministry and the NBR, it added.
According to the existing rules of the NBR, September 30 is the last date for submitting income tax returns for individual taxpayers.
The NBR has not taken any decision on extending the deadline, officials said, adding that a decision may be taken on the last day.
They said that the FBCCI had sought extension of time for submitting returns for various reasons over the past few years.
Last year the revenue board extended the deadline for filing returns by 45 days in two phases.
