Urges businessmen to come forward with financial help for injured workers
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Thursday urged the business community to come forward with all kinds of assistance including financial support for the better treatment of the workers injured at the deadly building collapse in Savar.
FBCCI, the apex trade body of the country, also urged the government to bring the culprits responsible for the incident to justice and give them exemplary punishment.
The trade body made the appeal from an emergency meeting of its board of directors with the FBCCI president, Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed, in the chair.
The FBCCI also postponed its businesses conference scheduled to be held today (Friday) due to the building collapse.
‘The FBCCI has decided to postpone the conference of business community considering the importance of proper rescue operation to save workers still trapped inside the debris of collapsed building and proper treatment to the injured ones,’ the federation said in a news release on Thursday.
Many readymade garment workers were killed and hundreds were injured after a building housing five garment factories collapsed on Wednesday in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Early April, the FBCCI called the conference to discuss about the ongoing political unrest in the country and find out ways to solve the crisis.
The conference was supposed to be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city. The new date for the conference will be announced later, the news release said.
