The season’s curtain-raiser, the Federation Cup football tournament will start from November 4 with the participation of 12 clubs, the Bangladesh Football Federation said on Saturday.
All 10 Bangladesh Premier League teams will play in the competition along with Bangladesh Championship League clubs Rahamatganj MFS and BKSP, who will play as BFF invitees.
Bangladesh Police could be the 13th team provided they accept BFF’s invitation.
Salam Murshedi, senior vice president of the BFF and chairman of the professional league committee, said that if Police confirm their participation then there will be a play-off between BKSP and Police to determine which team will play in the final round.
The draw of the tournament will be held on November 1 with 12 finalists splitting into four groups. The BFF, however, said that they were unable to finalise the complete fixture considering the political uncertainty.
The BFF also decided that they will begin the seventh edition of the professional football league seven to 10 days after the completion of the Federation Cup.
‘Seven or 10 days after the Federation Cup ends, we will start the league,’ said professional football league committee chairman Salam Murshedi. ‘If the political situation of the country is normal then we will set up the league in all the venues across the country.’
