A female physician was found dead at her father’s residence in the city’s Kafrul area early on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Nigar Sultana Anny, 32, a physician of gayne department of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, and a resident of 270 Senpara Parbata of Mirpur.
Quoting family members, police said that they recovered the body of Nigar from a room of her parents’ residence at around 12:30am on Saturday.
Family sources said that Nigar had come to her parents’ residence at Kafrul to join a traning session in Dhaka on Thursday night.
‘Nigar locked the door from inside after entering a room at around 9:00pm on Friday. As she did not respond to the calls made by some of our relatives at around 11:30pm, we called in police and they found her body lying on the bed,’ Nigar’s cousin Shirin told reporters at their house.
She suspected that someone might have killed her sister in a planned way.
Inspector of Kafrul Police Station Abdur Rashid said Nigar might have committed suicide by taking a poisonous injection, as they recovered an injection syringe from her room.
He said that they had recovered the body after breaking the door of the room. ‘We found a bottle filled with poisonous liquid beside Nigar’s dead body,’ Rashid said.
The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Nigar’s parents left Dhaka 10 days back for Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, family source said.
Nigar was married to businessmen Ashraf in 2008, but he left the country for Australia for his business purpose, the victim’s family members said.
Kafrul police officer-in-charge Anisur Rahman told New Age that he also suspected Nigar might have committed suicide as the door was locked from inside.
No case was filed till filing the report in this regard.
