The final round and the prize-giving ceremony of the English Olympiad Bangladesh 2022 were held at Daffodil Smart City at Ashulia, Dhaka on Saturday.
The Department of English of Daffodil International University organised the event for the third time with the motto ‘Show Your English Talents, Go for Greater Challenge’ to make youth competent global citizens to take the lead in international activities, said a press release.
The competition attracted students of class 9 to 12 (including ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels) from all over the country, and a total number of 977 students registered themselves for the event, which was divided into two categories—the senior category (college level) and the junior category (school level).
From the junior category, Shaherid Younus from Milestone School and College became champion, Faria Tasnim from Milestone College became first runner-up and Irfan Khan Joy from Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School became the second runner-up.
In the senior category, Mussarat Tasmia Sneha from Feni Girls Cadet College became the champion, Miftahul Islam Rajya from Faujdarhat Cadet College became the first runner-up, and Mohammad Adnan from Presidency International School became the second runner-up.
Convener Nahid Kaiser, Department of English at DIU, announced the names of the champions.
Shamsad Mortuza, professor of English at Dhaka University, was present as chief guest, while chief patron of the event and chairman of the board of trustees of Daffodil International University Md Sabur Khan was present as guest of honour.
DIU vice-chancellor professor M Lutfar Rahaman was present as a special guest at the programme.
