Following the release of a leaked video of the prime minister of Finland dancing with her pals at a party, Sanna Marin revealed on Friday that she had done a drug test.
Marin acknowledged taking the test, the results of which will be made public the following week, during a press conference.
“Even in my teenage years I have not used any kind of drugs,” Marin said, adding that she took the test as an added measure to allay any concerns.
This followed a request for her to voluntarily submit to a drug test from opposition Finns Party chair Riikka Purra in an interview with the daily Helsingin Sanomat.
Videos showing the prime minister having a good time with various Finnish celebrities and public personalities went viral on social media, earlier this week. Marin and other partygoers are seen dancing and singing together in the footage, which were put together from several clips.
Marin said that the recordings were confidential and had been shot a few weeks previously in a residential home.
She admitted to being filmed, but she believed the footage would remain private when she spoke with the media on Thursday morning.
“I am upset that these videos have become public. It was about me having a night out with friends,” she said. The prime minister also noted that she had consumed “mild” alcoholic beverages, but no drugs.
“I want to show that there are ordinary people with ordinary lives in these jobs. I have a family life, I have a work life and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age,” she stressed.
