The first four-day match between the Bangladesh Under-19 team and Sri Lanka Under-19 side ended in a draw at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
The young Tigers, chasing an improbable target of 233 runs, were batting on 71-3 from 25 overs in their second innings when bails were drawn for the fourth and final day.
The visiting Sri Lankan Under-19 team earlier declared their second innings at 207-8, with an
overall lead of 232 runs and just about enough time to have a go at their opponents but Sadman Islam (34 not out) and first-innings centurion Mehedy Hasan (28) safely negotiated the overs to avoid any minor jitters for the hosts, however little.
AK Tyronne scalped
two of the three wickets to fall on the last day
which took his match figures to 9-171, earning him the player-of-the-match award.
Bangladesh leg-spinner Jubair Hossain did not fare any bad either as he dismissed three opposition batsmen in the second innings to take his match-haul to 8-202.
For the visitors, captain Kusal Mendis scored 52 before declaring their innings with two wickets remaining.
The second and final four-day match will start in two days’ time at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium.
