State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira handed over TVS Wego scooters and cheques for low interest loans to five women entrepreneurs of Joyeeta Foundation, a state-owned organisation that provides financing and support to women entrepreneurs.
She handed over a total of Tk7.45 lakh to five women, along with the scooters during an event at Joyeeta Foundation’s food court at Rapa Plaza in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Thursday, said a press statement.
The state minister also distributed SME loan cheques of over Tk11.30 crore to 75 women entrepreneurs of Jayita Foundation.
The loan is being given at only 5% interest from the Revolving Capital Support Fund of Joyeeta Foundation. The Loans are being disbursed through City Bank Limited, NRB Commercial Bank, United Commercial Bank and One Bank Limited.
Speaking as the chief guest at the programme, she recalled Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s contribution to women’s freedom and mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has built a nationwide women-friendly infrastructure for the marketing and marketing of products and services produced by women entrepreneurs.
Also speaking at the programme, Nazma Mobarek, secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, appreciated the role of Joyeeta Foundation for supporting women entrepreneurs at every stage from production to product sales.
Afroza Khan, managing director of Joyeeta Foundation, said, “Many women will take their daughter to school by riding a scooter with Joyeeta’s logo, and bring their own products to the shop. The bikes will make their journey easier; we all hope that we will see many such women on the streets.”
Meanwhile, speaking as guest of honour, TVS Auto Bangladesh Managing Director J Ekram Hossain, said, “Today, a new horizon of women’s journey in our country has opened through the handing over of scooters to Joyeeta entrepreneurs. We hope that in the coming days this great initiative of Joyeeta Foundation will spread across the country very quickly and will advance the life of women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh in many ways. We at TVS Bangladesh are very happy and proud to be associated with this great initiative.”
City Bank MD Masrur Arefin also spoke on the occasion. – Press release
