Bangladesh has a rich cultural heritage in folk music. Many folk musicians and composers ruled the music industry here with the touch of their lyrical compositions and ballads. As a part of its continuation, many folk artistes came forward to take the folk songs in limelight. For the survival of folk songs in country, many organisations came forward and stood in a common platform.
Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad is that type of platform, which has been working for promoting the folk songs and artistes. The platform, Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad started its journey on January 15, 1994. Yesterday members of the Parishad celebrated its 11th founding anniversary in the city yesterday amid festivity. Members of the council brought out a colourful rally from the National Press Club and organised a discussion meeting at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city yesterday.
In the discussion, a four-hour musical soiree of folk songs was also held as a part of the celebration of the founding anniversary.
Country’s veteran folk artiste and folk poet Kuti Monsur inaugurated the event as chief guest at the National Press Club at 3:00pm. Eminent poet Asad Chowdhury, founder of the Parishad and folk artiste and researcher Indra Mohan Rajbongshi, folk artiste Akramul Islam, convenor of the present convening committee of the Parishad Akhtar Ahmed Chowdhury, AKM Selim, folk artiste Abu Bakar Siddiqui, members and artistes of the Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad, among others, took part in the rally.
In the discussion, AKM Selim, veteran journalist Kamal Lohani, poet Asad Chowdhury, folk artiste Kiron Chandra Roy and Indra Mohan Rajbongshi took part in the discussion, while Akhter Ahmed Chowdhury chaired the session. In the discussion speakers urged all to come forward for the survival of the folk music in the country and also urged to work for the development of the folk musicians.
After the discussion, folk artistes Shayonta, Ohama, Hawa, Azad, Farid, Tuli, Himu, Sharmin, Sontosh, Shishir, Aziz, Laily, Birohi, Topon, Nasrin, Swapan, Shadhon, Emily, Bimol, Sathi, Shahnaz, Rita, Mahtab, Sabina, Mesbah, Kajol, Masud, Jamal, Sweety, Monira, Dr Azad, Tawhid, Chaman, Anima Mukti and Shyamal rendered folk songs in the musical session.
Among the prominent artistes Shammi Akhter, Akramul Islam, Bipul Bhattacharya, Kiron Chandra Roy, Dipti Rajbongshi, Abu Bakar Siddiqui, Chandana Mazumder and Indra Mohan Rajbongshi also performed folk songs in the musical session.
Tawhid Sarkar, Komol Malo, Khokon, Noyon, Sontosh and Shankar were in instrumental music during the presentation, while Anima Mukti Gomez, Sabina Yasmin and Ranjit Das were in announcement of the programme.
