The Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday announced a 25-member under-23 preliminary squad for the Asian Games to be held in Incheon, South Korea, in September.
Abahani defender Tutul Hossain Badshah, who spent most of the season on the bench, relegated Uttar Baridhara goalkeeper Osman Gani and Mohammedan’s promising winger Yousuf Sifat were the three new faces in the squad.
The notable omission from the squad was the Mohammedan winger Zahid Hossain.
Five senior footballers – Mamunul Islam, Zahid Hasan Ameli, Atiqur Rahman Meshu, Mithun Chowdhury and expatriate Jamal Bhuiyan were also named in the preliminary in the squad. Among them, only three will be able to represent the country when the final selection will be made.
The Dutch coaches, Lodewijk de Kruif and Rene Koster, are scheduled to arrive on August 1 after enjoying a long vacation in their homeland and they are expected to start the training camp from August 3 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha
Protishthan. The training will continue till the final squad leave for South Korea.
Of the 25 members, 15 have already donned the Bangladesh national team jersey and played in the FIFA international friendly match against India early this year.
The groupings for the tournament will be made on August 19.
