Former Chief Election Commissioner Justice Md Abdur Rouf has passed away at the age of 91.
He died around 10:00 am while receiving treatment at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital in Dhaka, as stated in a press release.
Justice Rouf had been battling heart disease, lung complications, kidney issues, and other age-related health problems for an extended period.
His first namaz-e-janaza will take place today after Asr prayers at Gausul Azam Mosque in Mohakhali.
The second janaza is scheduled for tomorrow after Zohr prayers at the National Eidgah ground on the Supreme Court premises, followed by a third janaza after Maghrib prayers at Dapunia High School ground in Mymensingh Sadar, where he will be laid to rest in the family graveyard next to his mother.
He is survived by two sons, a daughter, and many admirers.
Justice Rouf served as the fifth chief election commissioner of the country from late 1990 to early 1995. He was also chairman of Barakah Foundation.
