At least five people, four of whom were of one family, died and 20 others were injured in a traffic accident on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway near Abdul Kadir Molla City College in the Narsingdi district headquarters about 12:30pm on Thursday.
The deceased were Nurun Nesa 50, Kohinoor, 26, Sijala, 20 and Yasmin, 18, all of a single family, and car driver Zahir, 30. All were from Habiganj.
THE Police and witnesses said a bus headed for Manohardi from Dhaka collided head-on with the car the five were in. Four of them died on the spot and the other died on the way to hospital.
The injured Salauddin, publicity secretary of the Habiganj unit Awami League, Sohel, Zia, Khairul, Bashar, Tanvir and Tuhin were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. Others were admitted to Narsingdi General Hospital.
The bodies were sent to the general hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations. A case was filed
but none has so far been arrested.
