Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested four central leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), including its former President Fakhruddin Manik, from Rampura area in the city on Friday. The three other arrested were identified as Shibir central office secretary Atiqur Rahman, International Affairs Secretary Mohsinul Kabir alias Fahim and Shibir Rampur Police station unit president Yasin. “Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted drives in Rampura’s Banasree area around 12.30 pm and arrested the Shibir leaders,” says Molla Nazrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (north) of DB police. The member of the intelligence agency also seized huge anti government leaflets, documents, laptop and desktop computer from their possessions, he said, adding that the arrested leaders of Shibir, the associate student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, were wanted in a number of cases filed against them. Many activists of the student association, including its President Delwar Hossain, are in jail. Shibir was allegedly involved in the nationwide havoc Jamaat caused demanding abolition of war crimes trials.
