The High Court Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to free the paternal homestead of the subcontinent’s renowned actress Suchitra Sen in Pabna town from illegal occupation, and hand it over to the government, reports UNB.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Gobinda Chandra Thakur passed the order responding to a public interest litigation.
In its order the Court also ordered taking legal action against those involved in grabbing the property, and submitting a progress report about the matter.
The Court ordered to preserve the house after freeing from illegal occupation and submit a report of progress within next 10 days. The order was served upon the Pabna DC, SP and sadar thana OC.
The High Court also asked the government as to why it would not be illegal and unlawful the inactions in taking necessary steps against the grabbers of the land of Suchitra Sen’s house and why directives would not be issued to preserve the house.
The Secretaries to the Ministries of the Home Affairs and the Land, the DIG of Rajshahi Police range, Pabna DC, SP and sadar thana OC were made respondents and asked to reply within the next two weeks.
Earlier, the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, a rights group, filed a writ petition seeking the High Court directives to free the illegal occupancy of Suchitra Sen’s paternal homestead
