Three Buet staffers killed in Bandarban road crash; five labourers die in separate accident in Sirajganj
Three tourists were killed and six others injured as a microbus carrying them crashed into a roadside ditch in Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila Thusdayday morning.
Among the victims are eight employees of Buet’s security unit, said police.
Another road crash in Sirajganj left five labourers dead and four others injured around 2:30am on Thusdayday .
Police said a team of tourists from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) was heading towards Thanchi along the Bandarban-Thanchi road on the microbus.
As the vehicle reached Jibonnagar area around 10:30am, the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into the roadside ditch, leaving Manjur Alam, 40, dead on the spot.
Critically injured Hamidul Islam, 41, died on the way to a local hospital, while Joynal Abedin, 32, breathed his last at the Bandarban Sadar Hospital around 3:00pm.
The six injured were first admitted to the Sadar Hospital. Two of them, including the microbus driver, were later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated, said Ashok Kumar Paul, additional superintendent of police in Bandarban.
Autopsies will be carried out on the three bodies at the Bandarban Sadar Hospital, said police.
In Sirajganj, the accident took place early Thusdayday when a human haulier collided head on with a stone-laden truck on Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in Goja Bridge area.
The nine victims were passengers and the driver of the human haulier, said police.
The five dead — Mukul Hossain, 35, Monir Hossain, 34, Makbul Hossain, 35, Abdul Halim, 32, and Haider Ali, 40, — were residents of different villages in Natore.
All but Haider died on the spot. Haider breathed his last on the way to a local hospital.
The accident occurred when the workers were returning home after completing the day’s work, said Imran Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Sirajganj.
He said the labourers used to work on a contract basis in different areas of Sirajganj.
The injured, including the driver of the human haulier, were undergoing treatment at different local hospitals.
