Bangladesh Premier League’s event management company Game On Sports Management promised to pay a part of their dues for it’s second edition to the Bangladesh Cricket
Board by next week, said a BCB official on Thursday.
Game On owes Tk 19 crore to the BCB and after lot of uncertainty the Board managed to receive the verbal commitment from its major share holder Enayatur Rahman after a meeting with the event management company.
‘They have promised to give a bank guarantee for Tk 15 crore by next Monday,’ said Afzalur Rahman, an ad-hoc committee member of the BCB, told New Age.
‘We will be able to encash it within the next three months,’ said Afzal.
‘We asked for the entire amount of Tk 19 crore but they said it would be difficult for them to arrange that much money and can provide us Tk 15 crore, which we decided to agree,’ he said.
Earlier, Game On Sports Management failed to clear the payments of the tournament’s second edition after the company was unsuccessful in meeting the deadline that ended on March 28, which was later extended for a month.
The BCB, who had already issued a legal notice to the franchises for failing to pay their players’ dues, was also mulling a similar move against Game On before the event management company agreed to sit with them.
Afzalur added that Game On had asked for some compensation for the unavailability of the Pakistani players in the tournament for which they had to incur financial losses as some of the sponsors backed out.
‘We had asked them to give a letter regarding this issue and we will discuss it in the board meeting before taking any decision,’ said Afzalur.
